Weekend Surf Report for Muriwai Beach 28th & 29th March!

A fun looking weekend surf report with light winds and a medium size swell. Saturday might have a bit of current heading south towards the rocks with the swell coming from the west. I expect Sunday to be the better option with more settled conditions and the swell direction changing back to a more normal angle.

We have sponsored the Maori Bay Boardridders King and Queen of The Bay event this Sunday so if you're around it's a great opportunity to go check out the local surfers competing.

Beginner and Intermediate Surfers Weekend Surf Report

Saturday 28th March

Swell - 1.5m

Wind - 7 - 9knts SW

High Tide 6.28am

Low Tide 12.48pm

With the cyclone between NZ and Australia heading south we might have some leftover west swell Saturday morning, this should change to the more typical SW swell sometime around midday. A swell from the west will normally result in a stronger than normal current heading towards the rocks (south). The afternoon looks like a great option for Saturday with the tide coming in and the swell straightening back up.

Beginners - Skip the morning with the outgoing tide and look to surf from 3pm onwards. I'd expect it to be fun in the afternoon with the incoming tide.

Look Out!! The current will be strong heading south in the morning.

Advanced Beginners - The mid to high tide in the arvo should be fun! Anytime from 3pm onwards is my pick.

Look Out!! If you're just starting to paddle out a bit further, make sure you look back at the beach often so you're aware of the current strength.

Intermediates - The swell direction in the morning should mean there's a lot of rights but it also might be unsafe if the current is too strong. I think it's best to wait for the high tide in the evening.

Look Out!! The current will be strong heading south in the morning.

Sunday 29th March

Swell - 1.3m

Wind 5 - 8knts NE

High Tide 7.39am

Low Tide 1.56pm

Sunday looks like it will have beautiful surf! Small and offshore conditions will make the morning fun for all levels.

Beginners - The morning looks really good, the best conditions will be 8am until midday!

Look Out!! Low tide might be tricky 1pm - 3pm so skip that if possible.

Advanced Beginners - The morning should be best, first light until about 11am will have nice waves for progressing one. If you can't come in the morning, 4pm until dark should also be nice.

Look Out!! Skip the low tide.

Intermediates - Any time in the morning will be fun, the wind might turn light onshore after midday so anytime before that will be best.

Look Out!! N/A
